The drive there — unless you’re behind the wheel of a Land Rover or a tractor — feels like you’re trying to reach Mordor via a forgotten Devon backroad. Bumpy, winding, and slightly apocalyptic. If you survive the whiplash and the high tide (genuinely check for the high and low tide times before coming here. We got lucky.) When you finally arrive, you’re greeted by what looks like a scrapyard for ice cream vans mixed with the set of Waterworld. All very “southern American bayou meets end-of-the-world seafood shack.” Could be mistaken for the set of Mad Max. Very dystopian and backwoods vibes. Was missing someone sat on a rocking chair playing a banjo, and chewing a piece of straw. Then you see it — a place that looks like the Krusty Krab restaurant from SpongeBob reimagined by a pirate with a passion for saloon doors, compete with rope door handles and Covid-era plastic sheeting. Weird? Yes. Brilliant? Also yes. The host was a gem — warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the menu and specials. We started with oysters — actual unicorns in the South West coast these days it seems, as we couldn’t find anywhere that served them, until we stumbled upon this place — and they were divine. We tried all six toppings and every single one slapped in its own unique way. For mains, we went for the BBQ grilled lobster, which unfortunately had the texture of a stress ball and the flavour of mild disappointment. Overcooked and too fiddly to even get any protein out of the legs or claws. Definitely not worth 59 unfortunately. But then — salvation. The dessert. The orange chocolate brownie with ice cream. Honestly? Life-changing. Utterly divine. Easily the best dessert I’ve ever had. If I could marry a dessert, this would be it. Still thinking about it like an ex I regret losing. The only difference is I still have yearning longing daydreams about this dessert now. And to top it all off — it’s dog friendly in the coolest way. Bowls of water, wagging tails, and pups snoozing like they own the joint. I’d go back just for that brownie... and the dogs. Mostly the brownie.

One of the best lobster I have in England. The location is in the middle of the mountain, quiet but busy. I recommend reserve, it is as good I book again to return in two days. Oysters are great and Crab are also great. Good food, great value.

Amazing sea food with a great combination of flavours. Everything was cooked perfectly and we loved the truffle slaw. Monkfish was delicious. Love that it’s dog friendly too. Was looking forward to the marmalade pudding after seeing some reviews, but it was just a normal steamed pudding really, but still tasty.

Beyond satisfied!!! Unbelievable food and even better service from our waiter. He was really friendly and went above and beyond for us as my wife has a nut allergy and made extra effort to ensure our food was perfect. Now the food, wow, anything and everything and I especially lived the oysters. 10/10

Out of this world... The food is delicious. The decor is really inviting and lots to look at. Lots of parking. Based at the top of the tidal road near Aveton Gifford. Quite expensive but the quality and locally sourced fish is amazing and even the decoration of the plate is next to none. This a place not to be missed. Mainly serves for lunch as it is not open in the evening. Would recommend this for a party of people. Fond memories of this place. The staff are all very professional and have good attention to detail. The atmosphere is vibrant and being secluded adds to the experience. It has a journey feel to the place. Close to Bigbury.

First discovered this place by accident last year and wanted to return, as we enjoyed such a great meal then and wasn't disappointed. My husband chose the catch of the day, with my son having the kids version. I decided to have 2 starters, the tacos & spider crab croquettes along with an oyster, with the truffle & hazelnut dressing, which was absolutely delicious. Would advise you book a table, although we were lucky and there was a table free but we visited early in the evening. There are good looking veggie options. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a lovely evening for my mums birthday. There were just two serving staff & they were amazing. They managed a full & busy restaurant with calm, pleasant & efficient skill. I really was very impressed - really I would have expected x3 floor staff or x2 floor & a bar staff but they did it all!! Thank you & well done
